Swim Suit

I am off to a small island around this parts : Catalina Island .It’s just off the Southern California Coast where I live. So it’s a “Stay-cation” – What I refer to trips/get-aways that are away but still within your area/state. One of my Bffs is celebrating her birthday, she came up with this grand idea! It’s like a girl’s get-away!

A lot is planned; from zip lining, para-sailing, to sight seeing. I, personally,  just wanna lounge, be lazy and one with the ocean. I packed three bathing g suits, but a sister ain’t feeling all that hot and sexy so we’ll see if my tummy will see the day-light!

Above is one of the suits and below is another ensemble consisting of a black  , very soft, maxi!  I’ll wear the same red bottom from above and I have a leopard print one piece – YOU KNOW IT!! I  Love me some Leopard print!

I haven’t had a chance to take pictures of OTDs ( Outfit of the Day) and give styling tips cause my guy was finishing finals and busy but now he’s done with this semester  ( Yippy!)so we we’ll get this PARTY STARTED buddy!

If you miss my full length (lol), here’s pictures from visiting a friend at her grad event and random pictures from my Instagram.

Spotted another brand that’s unfamiliar to me: Clover Canyon, this is their resort collection for 2014! If you love color, digital print designs, fruits, foliage, abstract, you’re in heaven with this collection. It’s a perfect marriage , it meshes so well! It’s definitely for someone who doesn’t mind standing out –  I’d rock it!

As usual, I probably will not be purchasing, simply because they are too expensive for my taste and budget but I will definitely drool and get inspirations! Here is their site if your interested in buying or looking at other styles they have.

The fabrics look so soft and movable, it’s definitely a good choice for summer and vacation-look! They remind me of the East African print: Kitenge.

P.S Ain’t the model so adorable?

Feature post, Exploring the Forces in Fashion

Courtesy of funjooke.com

Hey there!

I was honored when a fellow blogger asked me to do a feature post on their blog!  The blogger for “Exploring the Forces in Fashion” reached out to me and asked me to , pretty much, write about anything fashion related. Having no limitations was exciting but it also left me floating in outer space for a while with no sense of direction.

And then one evening when I was torn in deciding what to wear with what, an idea was birthed! I immediately put my fingers to the keyboard and started producing the piece: Detail Decisions.

Below is an excerpt:

“It really comes down to the details of details, these decisions  sometimes leaves one with such a close tie! Here’s when most women enlist their male companions or fellow female friends for further scrutiny of which will be the best fit. I know the commercial of the female asking her significant other, ” Honey, which shoes?” and him looking widely lost because they all look the same – of course to him only – is suddenly playing in your head, no?”

Wrap party

wrap party

Happy Tuesday all.

My loved ones and I are going through some thick cloud, it gets hard to keep up positiveness when it’s most essential I tell you! Just so much is testing my family and I. Trials left and right, slaps up and down – the devil seems to think he has found a play ground of sort SMDH! I rebuke it, this too shall pass! No seed of distraction, confusion, depression will be planted, at least am not watering that. NOPE.

Anyhow, that’s my Tuesday rant ( lol). Over the weekend, I went to a “Wrap” party on Saturday. I wanted to share with you my experience.

Your probably lost already, “what is  a wrap party?” Right? Well, my supervisor got involved in one of those personal businesses like Avon, Mary kay sorta of thing doing business in homes or among friends. She is working with this weight loss body wrap company: “ It Works “ as a distributor. It’s suppose to help you tighten, tone and firm. Since I have been working out, I didn’t mind attending her event to learn more about the wraps and to simply socialize.

At the wrap party, all attendees were wrapped for 45 minutes including me. We were measured prior and after the wrap.  I lost 1 and half inches, and the highest lost some woman had was 5 inches off! Cool, right? I was still skeptical about how and why it works – in general any quick weight loss stuff leaves me doubting. I just wanted to share my experience with ya!  If you have used it long term or have something to say please share.

I have done a little research. I have come across interesting information on the WebMD site.

Read it here:  Body Wraps, What to Expect.

Whichever method, experiments I partake in, I always remember the way I lose the weight is the way I’ll maintain it and is that do-able for me? Do I want to be paying this much for this or that product or do I not want to NOT eat meat anymore – whatever the case is. In the end the basic is what I settle for, despite trying other things, I strive to eat healthy and workout. When I think about it, whatever is lost quick can come back quick, so….

I am still undecided on if I want to try a three-month trial or not.  I will say it left my skin so baby-soft and I liked that! I was recommended to measure a day or two after and I did and I lost another inch, totaling 2 inches.I am not going to go into too much details. Pretty much you can wrap your stomach, arms, back, neck; wherever you need toning. The wraps are infused with healthy agents to help detox and purify skin – and inch loss is also another added benefit.

I also discovered via research you can make your own home-made wraps. You know I am all about DIY and cost-friendly solutions. So that’s definitely something I would be inclined to do, am not sure if it also tightens, tones and firms with inch loss but am sure there’s some sort of benefit.

Wikihow: How to do a Home Body Wrap

Also you can read this woman’s story: Ultimate Body Applicator, my Story.

A link from that woman’s story for another Home Body wrap recipe and story: HERE

If you try it, keep me posted and let’s talk. I am not up for a project at the moment but I will document my experience if I get around to doing it.

Wish List

sandals(3)

Happy Friday!!

Some things on my current wish list:

Current Wishlist

Whites ( pants, maxi)

Remember here, I said I would infuse more whites in my style? Well am looking for the perfect white maxi dress and a white jeans – I may make my own jeans ( watch out for a DIY) I have some ideas!

Camo ( jacket, skinny jean)
I have lusted over these trend for a while now. It’ll add the perfect edge with my side-shaved hair style! Don’t cha agree???

Crochet dresses/ cover-ups
Ever try something on and for one reason or another you didn’t buy it but the thought of it pops up one day? Well I tried a crochet cover up dress once at H&M and it looked so great on me, I always stayed away from that style. Now with summer around the corner am wanting one!
Sandals and Flats
I do not have a pair of decent sandals, shame on me! I am in the most beautiful city with the best weather – averaging 75 most of the time and  I own no proper sandals. I use one which is my sister’s. It’s time I get a few. I need flats to rest my feet at work too.
Makeup
The one thing I dread shopping for. It’s a different world, it’s so confusing to me! However, I am out of foundation and am trying to decide if I should try something new or keep with my Revlon line of choice? I did try MAC for the first time and it wasn’t bad at all!
Have a blessed and pleasant weekend friends :-)

Be my slave!

o-AAMNA-AQEEL-BE-MY-SLAVE-570 (1)

First there was “Bow down Bitches” from Beyoncé’s song,  that was the main talk around the web until it died. Now, there’s “Be My Slave”- and no this one has nothing to do with Beyoncé so you can chill! My main point here is  the power of language/messaging and how those who are able to control this either don’t pay attention to it or are deliberately using it for a personal gain of some sort – perhaps a marketing strategy that we all need to be enlightened on!

I caught wind of an editorial shoot by Aamna Aqeel in Diva magazine lightly while on the web but I scrolled past it, initially, avoiding irritation. When it landed in my inbox on Facebook via a dear friend, I had to read it! Boy oh boy, when I read it was I astounded!

They say pictures say a thousand words , these  pictures coupled with the repulsive and explicit  message ” Be my Slave” spoke a million words and some! It will jilt you if you haven’t forgotten about slavery by now;  I say forgotten because folks have made it a point of fashion and art these days to decorate a sad reality – so much so that the ugliness of it is slowly growing dim.  Will the future generation think slavery was all a big joke or am I overreacting here?

See for yourself:

The message and images seems so clear right? However, no we all have been mistaken somehow ! This wasn’t Aqueel intentions, ‘ She denied any intention of racism in the story. In fact, the designer’s aim was to shed light on the issue of child labor. Aqueel said that the dark-skinned Baloch child was incidental–“He works in a garage and wanted some work.”’ ( Via Huffington Post, Julee Wilson)

Isn’t that child-labor in and of itself still? Why? Because he’s gonna be on a spread, it’s not? Are his parents aware? I have nothing more to say. Here’s a few comments from commentators on her Facebook:

  •  ” This is hideous and completely irresponsible advertising.” — Sarah J.K
  • “ Slave is always appealing…….. “– Ann White
  • ” This is suppose to be art?” –Jannah Lisa Prentiss
  • ” This is stupidly ridiculous you couldn’t be more innovative and come up with a better, less exploitative, less offensive theme? This tells me how NOT creative or aware you are.” –Christina Marie
  • “It’s only art mimicking a past life event. No reason to take it personal. you weren’t even there.” — Harvey Trent
  • “Ah so slavery is “on trend” now is it?” –Leah Borromeo

White Model Portrayed as African Queen, read here.

I think it’s so easy to offend each other in the smaller scale of things but something so huge where so many people are involved – they do run it through editors and reviews ( I have interned for a print magazine and that’s the most repetitive part: editing)  am not sure how it didn’t sit well with someone?!  Having studied  Mass Media and the dissemination of messages to the masses, it is always unsettling to me the kind of messages that are sent and even scarier how the received is chewing it, especially children!

What are your thoughts, if any?
